Q: What’s one thing people don’t know about you that they would be surprised to find out?
A: My degree is in art history from the University of New Mexico. I originally wanted to be an art teacher. I took my first journalism job to help pay my way through college, and it ended up being a good detour!
Q: How would you describe your role at the AMA? What is a “Day in the Life?”
A: I'm a technical manager in circulation processing for the JAMA Network's subscription management system, Advantage. I assist with day-to-day operations of the system; data ingestion and automated order processing; and project management for system upgrades, integration and development projects. The work is varied, but I really enjoy that aspect. Some days, I'm initiating a new project or coordinating tasks and communication on something in progress. Others, I'm answering questions about how to use the system, creating XML schema definitions to upload large batches of data, or collaborating with users to write reports and solve workflow or system issues.
Q: When you consider diversity, equity, and inclusion what comes immediately to mind?
A: Organizations (and the wider community) are always better when they are diverse, actively promote equity initiatives, and encourage members to be their authentic selves. I feel fortunate that the AMA takes that seriously.
